Life Expectancy Drops for Some Americans
September 23, 2012
Here’s an alarming study which revealed that for non-college educated whites in the US, life expectancy dropped about 3 to 5 years from 1990 to 2008. The study authors were surprised at this finding and offered a number of possible explanations, including drug use, alcohol, lack of health insurance, and the rise of obesity.
We know that obesity is a major epidemic in this country. We also know that untreated obstructive sleep apnea can literally take decades off your life. If you assume that about 1/4 of this population has untreated obstructive sleep apnea, then 5 years sounds about right.
Do you know anyone who died at an early age due to untreated obstructive sleep apnea?
Got something to say?
